Some of the most beautiful and difficult yoga asanas require a certain level of flexibility that can be difficult to obtain.  While some people are naturally more flexible than others, many of us struggle with tight hamstrings.  Not only do tight hamstrings inhibit flexibility, they also can cause lower back pain.

Unfortunately I wasn’t blessed with long hamstrings and it has been a journey so far but I’m beginning to see a difference.  So here are 5 ways that actually seem to work.

How to Attain the Ultimate Consciousness through Meditation

I didn’t know much about the different paths of yoga when I first started.  Yoga was just a form of exercise like it is for many.  There’s nothing wrong with stretching and staying is shape, but yoga is much more than just asanas (poses).

I knew that yoga began in northern India more than 5,000 years ago, but that’s really all.  Even the training materials I was given lightly brushed the surface of what yoga really is.  I started researching online and the two books that were recommended to read were Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.

I started reading Bhagavad Gita which is a sacred 700-verse Hindu text that was written sometime between 400 BCE and 200 CE.  The story was about a battle between two cousins belonging to the Pandavas and Kauravas clan.

First Time Beginning Yoga? Here are some Tips To Help You Transition Smoothly

I began practicing yoga about four months ago.  It was almost by accident because yoga was the last thing on my mind.  I was going to 24 Hour Fitness and decided to take a yoga class there.

I was immediately intrigued and decided I wanted to learn more about it.  I wanted to see what an actual yoga studio was like.  I signed up for a free trial a local yoga studio and right away I became addicted.

It felt good to stretch after sitting behind a desk for 8 hours.  I was surprised at the level of difficulty yoga is and assumed it would be easy.  I couldn’t have been more wrong.
