Unleash your Creativity through the Sacral Chakra

“Yoga releases the creative potential in life.” -B.K.S. Iyengar

There’s nothing more frustrating than suffering from writer’s block and constantly shredding rough drafts. Creativity is important for many artists that have jobs that depend on constantly creating fresh and innovative content. Rather than pulling your hair out, you can unleash this abundance of creative energy that is stored within the sacral chakra.

So what is the Sacral Chakra?

The Sacral Chakra, known as Svadhishthana in Sanskrit, is responsible for our emotions and intimacy. Svadhishthana, which translates to “one’s own base”, is orange in color and is located in the lower abdomen of the naval center.

When the sacral chakra is unblocked, we can all experience pleasure, happiness, healthy sexuality, positive energy, healthy reproductive organs, and creativity.

Here are 4 ways to unleash this powerful energy.

1. Sun Salutations or Surya Namaskar in Sanskrit

Sun Salutations are the fast track to generate heat in our yoga practice.  This 12 posture sequence is a full body workout that improves blood circulation throughout the body. The sacral chakra’s element is water and it’s associated with flow and flexibility. This makes sun salutations a great way to release this orange glow.

2. Chant VAM

VAM (pronounced vum) is the cleansing mantra to unblock the sacral chakra. You can sit in a comfortable position and create a triangle with your hands on your navel. For 20 minutes you can relax, chant, and visualize orange light radiating from within.

3. Eat foods related to the sacral chakra

You can eat just about any fruit high in water content (not limited to just orange ones)  such as watermelon, pineapples, mangoes,  apricots, oranges, apples, pears, etc. to unblock the sacral chakra. You can also eat foods rich in Omega 3s such as Salmon.  Since the intestines are organs within the sacral chakra, consuming coconuts are also really cool to eat because it contains dietary fiber to aid in digestion.

4. Dance

Dancing is a really fun way to release our sacral energy. You’re moving your body which generates heat and allows this kundalini energy to flow. So turn on your favorite tune and dance. Don’t worry about someone looking at you! You could always dance in front of your bathroom mirror, which is one of my favorite things to do!

So it’s important to keep all 7 chakras in balance to ensure Kundalini energy flows from one chakra to the next. These techniques will help open the sacral chakra, so we can locate our inner child and create amazing things!

Thank you for reading.  Namaste.
