Is Yoga the Best Natural Vitamin?

Is Yoga the Best Natural Vitamin?

“To keep the body in good health is a duty, otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.”

-Buddha

For years I suffered with thin, brittle nails that would break and tear on a daily basis.  I tried many different multi-vitamins, which included biotin and hair, skin, and nail formulas.  Out of desperation I tried a supplement called horsetail (which by the way, made me extremely thirsty) and it didn’t work for me at all.

Next I battled with sleepless nights.  I tossed and turned in my bed and would always wake up in the middle of the night.  Going to bed early only made my symptoms worse and I became very frustrated.  I even remember trying a supplement called Valerian root….did not work for me either!  I remember an increased heart rate which made me extremely nervous and waking up feeling as if I was supercharged and not in a good way.  (No offense to Valerian users).

The Mystical Power of Sun Gazing

“Three things that cannot be long hidden:  the sun, the moon, and the truth.”

-Buddha

When it’s cloudy and rainy outside, people are often in a bad mood.  Sometimes we can go days without seeing the sun depending on the weather forecast in our area, and it can really be a drag!  When the sun finally reappears, people are happier. They smile more and want to be outside and feel the warmth of the sun on their skin.  I have always been fascinated with the power of the sun and began to wonder if we as humans can harness this power.

The ancient practice of sun gazing dates back to many different civilizations including the Aztecs, Mayans, Egyptians, Native Americans, and Indians.  Performing sun salutations or surya namaskar during yoga practice is one of my favorite parts of the session.

So what are some of the benefits of sun gazing?

Disclaimer:  I don’t recommended looking at the sun for more than a couple seconds per day to be on the safe side.
